| Sampling Broadway creates several eccentric urban spaces inspired by cross-sections of the city intersecting Broadway. The archetypal urban boulevard, once a meandering Indian trail, is the vehicle for exploring layers of history, commerce, the sense of place and personal mythology. The linked QTVR (QuickTime Virtual Reality) spaces of this piece are inhabited by moving images, sound and text which merge to explore connections between perception, inner life and external environment. Sampling Broadway extends Weintraub’s work with architecture as metaphor from still images and multimedia works for the Web into the construction of virtual spaces which can be navigated and actively explored by the viewer. |
